Senior Experts and Speakers on Numerous Subjects
SEASONS is an integenerational educational program bringing senior citizens into the classroom for presentations on various subjects.
SEASONS can help enhance curriculum being taught and build students' background knowledge. Teachers may invite the senior experts and speakers into their classroom.
SEASONS speakers volunteer their services, sharing first-hand life experiences, careers, hobbies and interests spanning more than 60 years.
SEASONS speaker discussions include historical accounts of World War II, adventures in global travel, careers in medical research and health, science and technology, experience in the arts, knowledge about agriculture and world hunger, community service, antiques and their significance and much more.
Sharing these treasures of the past links our diverse students to former generations, and helps build a community that bonds young and old of many cultures.
The Curriculum, Instruction and Continous Improvement office emphasize the alignment of SEASONS presentations to specific California State content standards.

The SEASONS' brochure is available on-line by clicking here. Thank you for participating in this unique intergenerational partnership. SEASONS presenters are true community partners; they are some of the best local advocates for education issues that we have in Ventura County. You will find that seniors are most interesting as classroom speakers covering an enormous range of topics ranging from career experience and guidance to personal histories, hobbies and travel. They will even tailor their presentations to fit in with your class lessons. Presenters have witnessed historical events first hand, and bring life-enriching skills into students lives, just as extended families did in the days when children, teens and grandparents gathered around the kitchen table. Those of you SEASONS veterans, who know the wonderful ways the following pages can enrich your curriculum, will want to take note of the new speakers and presentations we have. If you are new to adding some "season"ing to your classroom, the steps are easy.
To request a speaker, we ask for two weeks notice. Call the SEASONS office (805) 437-1347, or e-mail asweetland@vcoe.org with your request for a speaker or topic. You will be put in contact with the speaker so presentation dates can be planned. When making contact with a speaker please inform them with as much background as possible about your class.
Please give our office a return call with your scheduled dates and we will follow up with an evaluation form that you can return through school mail. These evaluations are important for us to make sure we're serving your needs. Thanks again for adding SEASONS to your class curriculum.
