After an extensive search, the Pleasant Valley School District (PVSD) Board of Trustees has chosen Dr. Angelica Ramsey as the district’s new Superintendent. The trustees selected Dr. Ramsey at their regular meeting on Thursday night in Camarillo. Dr. Ramsey is currently the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services at the Santa Clara County Office of Education in San Jose. She will replace Superintendent RaeAnne Michael, who is retiring after a lengthy career with the district.

“I am excited and honored to be joining the Pleasant Valley School District team,” said Dr. Ramsey. “I look forward to meeting with and learning from the Board, our students, staff, and the entire community as we continue to build on the district’s tradition of excellence.”

“We believe Dr. Ramsey will have a long term commitment to our district and our community,” said PVSD Board President Suzanne Kitchens. “Her core values of student priority, teamwork, professionalism, hard work and accountability are a match for our district.” Kitchens said the board will work with Dr. Ramsey this summer on goals and priorities for the new school year.

In her role at the Santa Clara County Office of Education, Dr. Ramsey has provided leadership and advocacy at the local, regional and state levels. She has worked to enhance school readiness and family engagement, promoted science and technology education, and enhanced multilingual services. Under her leadership, her office received four Golden Bell Awards from the California School Boards Association. She is also a member of the state’s Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee and serves as a regional lead for a four-county area. She began her career as a classroom teacher and has served as an assistant principal and a principal.

Dr. Ramsey earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University and published a dissertation entitled Nuestra Voz: A Critical Ethnographic Study of Latina Principals. She also received an educational specialist degree from Liberty University. She holds a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at El Paso and a bachelor’s degree in film studies from the University of the Pacific.

The search for PVSD’s new superintendent was conducted by a team from the Ventura County Office of Education. Dr. Ramsey will assume her responsibilities with the district on July 11.
