Principal's Message

On behalf of the Ojai TEAMS faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year. We are pleased that you have taken the time to visit the Ojai TEAMS website. Our hope is that you find our website to be user-friendly, and after your visit, you will have a good idea of what we have to offer.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Ojai and surrounding communities. My name is Karla Curry and I am extremely proud and excited to join the Ojai TEAMS family and return to the Ventura County Office of Education as a Special Education Principal. I have spent the last six years as a school administrator for New Hanover County Schools in Wilmington, North Carolina. Prior my administrative position, I was primary, secondary, and post-secondary special education teacher for students with moderate to severe disabilities. I received my undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a Special Education Teaching Credential from San Diego State University, and a Master's Degree in Special Education from California State University at Northridge. I completed my Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. As an individual who values continual, life-long learning and a leader who encourages and supports higher learning, I also serve adult learners as an adjunct professor of Educational Leadership for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

The Ventura County Office of Education operates the Ojai TEAMS Program at Nordoff High School in the city of Ojai. The site serves students, aged 18-22, with moderate to severe disabilities; specifically, the school provides services for students who can benefit from educational training that will ensure their greatest quality of life after they complete their public education. The Ojai TEAMS cherish the opportunity to help cultivate each student’s gifts and talents with an emphasis on post-secondary instruction related to independent living, career and vocational training, community access, recreation and leisure, mobility and motor skills, social-emotional needs, and functional academics. As a learning community, we believe that professional expertise supported by collaboration; between teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, administration, students, and parents/guardians; and professional development leads to positive student outcomes.

We thank you for visiting our website and hopefully you have gained additional insight about our program. My door is always open and I welcome your comments, suggestions, and ideas. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or ideas about how to make the website work better for you. Thank you for supporting Ojai TEAMS!

Kind Regards,

Karla Curry, Ed.D.
