Dr. Paula Lovo, Executive Director

The primary mission of Teacher Support Services is to support the Ventura County Office of Education, local districts, other teacher employers, and local universities in the recruitment, hiring, assigning and retaining highly qualified teachers.

Teacher Support Services has established an integrated system that supports multiple entry points into the teaching profession to provide a skilled, credentialed teacher for every classroom in Ventura County.

 

 
  TSS DEPARTMENTS and PROGRAMS   Minimize
Certification Development Services

Certificated Development Services (CDS) provides academic advisement for those individuals working toward a teaching credential and seeking to meet specific credential requirements; provides assistance to districts on assignment of highly qualified teachers; and assists with maintaining accreditation of all VCOE credential programs.

  • Academic Advisement - advisors are available to assist individuals with general teacher credentialing and TSS Program questions.
  • Bilingual Teacher Training Program (BTTP) - provides assistance to teachers to obtain credential authorizations for teaching to English Learner students.
  • Commission on Teacher Credentialing Authorizations (SB1292, Special Education Authorizations) 
  • Teacher Examination Preparation - classes available to assist individuals on preparing for and passing various teacher exams such as CBEST, CSET, CTEL and RICA.
  • Title II (CMIS, Verification Process for Special Settings) -state board approved advanced certification process by which teachers in "special settings" have an additional option to become compliant with No Child Left Behind legislation.
  • Personnel Management Assistance Teams (PMAT) - Ventura COE is designated as the PMAT central location for the collection, organization, storage and dissemination of information and resources to assist the PMAT regional centers in providing comprehensive personnel management assistance services. PMAT provides technical assistance to school districts in establishing and maintaining effective personnel management, recruitment, hiring, and retention practices.

Teacher Education Programs
The Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Induction Consortium (BTSA/IC) Program provides first- and second-year teachers with school-site support, professional development opportunities and recommendation for their clear credential. Experienced teachers receive training in the Formative Assessment for California Teachers (FACT) to foster new teacher growth and professionalism.

Teacher Development Programs
Teacher Development Programs provides teacher recruitment opportunities and coordination of charter and private school program participation.

  • Institutional Outreach (charter and private schools) - specialized credential services for teachers in charter and private schools.
  • Paraprofessional Teacher Training Program (PTTP) - provides financial assistance to paraeducators toward earning a teaching credential. 
  • Supplemental Educational Services (SES) - In coordination with the Paraprofessional Teacher Training Program (PTTP), program participants are employed to provide small group tutoring to "at risk" students and in return, receive assistance toward earning a teaching credential.
  • Ventura County Intern Program - An alternative certification program that provides under-prepared teachers with the coursework and school-site support to become successful teachers.
