Region 8 After School Programs
Providing technical support for Kern, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.

The Region 8 After School Coordination Team provides comprehensive and easy-to-understand tools to help school sites and community based organizations start-up and run best-in-class after school programs.


1. We provide comprehensive support to Local Educational Agencies and Community Based Organizations who are starting up a new after school program.

• We offer all of the documents that are needed to run an effective after school program, including detailed resource lists.
• We offer information and extensive support to help new after school programs obtain the necessary grants.
• We offer tips and tricks from the experts on how to set up an effective after school program from the very start.
• There are special outreach efforts made to Program Improvement Schools to help them during the start-up stage.

2. After School Programs that are already up and running receive support to understand and implement best practices.

• We offer examples of best practice documents used in high-performing programs as well as detailed resource lists.
• We specialize in getting after school programs the information and support they need to apply for and win grant money.
• We have a network of program administrators and others with whom you can share issues and solutions.
• Our outreach efforts to existing programs include special attention to Program Improvement Schools.

3. We offer training to all support staff and administrators who would like to gain new skills to improve their after school programs.

• We identify and provide access to existing relevant courses in the County Office schedule of professional development.
• Additionally, we offer relevant, expert training that is provided by our coordinator to build the necessary skills at each after school program site.
• We are responsive to the requests made for education by directors and the work groups.
