California Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards

Electronic versions of the Visual and Performing Arts content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education are available below. The standards represent a strong consensus on the skills, knowledge, and abilities in dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts that all students should be able to master from pre-kindergarten to grade twelve. The strands and standards describe the content that students need to master by the end of each grade level or cluster of grades (grades nine through twelve at the proficient and advanced levels). The standards build on the knowledge and skills the student has gained in the earlier grades.
