"Basic Cartooning"

Basic cartooning is a fun class in which students learn to draw simple cartoon faces with various expressions and emotions the very first day.  With simplicity as a key point they will add bodies and create their own characters.  Students will learn "tricks of the trade" of professional cartoonists and develop individualized comic strips using their own ideas.  Freedom of expression and experimentation are encouraged.

Jeff Loudermilk has been drawing cartoons since age nine when he drew Yogi Bear.  He has taught cartooning in a private art school to students age four to fourteen.  Largely self-taught, he has taken cartooning classes at Ventura Junior College, UCSB and UCLA.

Space/Materials required:
Classroom is adequate.  Students will need soft pencils, erasers, and paper or sketchpads.
