Charice Guerra, ELD/RLA Content Specialist is experienced teaching a variety of learners, including GATE/honors students, English learners, and struggling readers. A product of local Ventura County schools, she began her teaching career at E.O. Green Junior High and then moved to the high desert where she developed a model program for middle school English learners and worked at the district office as an intervention teacher. Her focus area was to increase student achievement by; analyzing student data, developing/deepening teacher knowledge in RLA content, provide coaching and modeling for teachers, and developing formative assessments at the classroom level to inform instruction.
Options include, but are not limited to:
- Modeling lessons (ELA, ELD, Content Area Reading).
- Designing/co-writing standard-based lessons/units that infuse academic language.
- Analyzing student data to focus learning objectives.
- Supporting teachers in using research based strategies in reading and writing in ALL content areas (science and social science)
- Using the ELD standards in relation to the RLA standards
- Infusing the ELD standards in the content areas
- Implementing adopted language arts material (core and intervention)
- Increasing student engagement with Foldables©
- Analyzing local and state assessments for academic language and their relation to the standards.
- Monitoring student progress through formative and summative assessments
- Analyzing CELDT data to determine program placement, progress monitoring, and reclassification.
- Training in SIOP, SB472 (ELPD, core and intervention)
