Dr. Valerie Chrisman, Executive Director, first started with the Ventura County Office of Education in 2001.  Originally, she was recruited to create an office of District and School Support.  In 2005, the offices of District and School Support and Curriculum and Instruction were combined and she was appointed the new Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Continuous Improvement.  Dr. Chrisman's other educational experiences, include teaching at the elementary, middle school and high school levels and the principal of an elementary school that became a National Title I Distinguished School.  Over the last six years she has worked with 13 districts and 34 schools and more than 37,000 students throughout the county to improve student achievement.  She represents Ventura County at the state-wide Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee where she is the co-chair for the Accountability Committee.  In Ventura County she chairs the monthly Curriculum Council meetings for district educational leaders.

Dr. Chrisman assists districts and schools by facilitating Local Educational Agency Plan revisions, follow-up support and monitoring for districts and schools, support for state and federal compliance issues and professional development on building collaborative teacher teams.  She is a SAIT and DAIT Lead and serves on all CICI achievement analysis teams.  Dr. Chrisman's work is published in Educational Leadership and her research on sustaining school improvement won the American Educational Research Association Dissertation of the Year in 2004.
