“All innovations worth their salt call upon people to question and in some respects change their behavior and their beliefs - even in cases where the innovations are pursued voluntarily."

OVERVIEW

We offer technical assistance to Program Improvement Schools and Districts in Region 8 which includes:

    • Kern County
    • San Luis Obispo County
    • Santa Barbara County
    • Ventura County

The Statewide System of School Support (S-4) was established in 1995 by the California Department of Education under the authority of Section 1117 of Title I, Improving America's Schools Act (IASA) of 1994.  The Regional System of District and School Support (RSDSS) is one facet of the S4 network focusing on the implementation of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the 2001 reauthorization of ESEA.  This system provides intensive support to Title I schoolwide and targeted assistance schools that have not made the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets for two consecutive years, and have entered Program Improvement status.  RSDSS strives to assist schools and districts to evaluate and modify current practices as they help all students meet or exceed rigorous state content and performance standards.

The system consists of the following support systems:

  • School Site Councils and Leadership Teams - training, advisement
  • District School Liaison Teams (DSLT) - training, advisement
  • County Offices of Education - advisement, professional development, academic audits, resources
  • Regional School Support and Improvement Centers - technical assistance, professional development, resources
  • California Comprehensive Assistance Center @ WestEd  - on-line resources, tools, and professional development
  • California Department of Education - data management, program monitoring, on-line resources, and professional development
