School Calendar

Instruction is based on the functional skills curriculum, which includes:
  • self-care / independent living
  • recreation / leisure
  • community access / motor skills
  • vocational
  • communication
  • social / emotional, and
  • functional academics

Academics are addressed within these domains with the purpose that students learn functional skills which are practical and maximize their independence in the future.  Some of the instruction occurs in the community where students have the opportunity to generalize concepts taught in the classroom.  A functional mobility component to the curriculum is available for students with physical disabilities to develop the skills of sitting, standing, and walking while participating in their school activities.

Occupational and physical therapist from the Garden Grove Medical Therapy Unit provide support to this aspect of the curriculum.  All activities are designed to increase independence and communication.  Integration with non-handicapped peers is available during assemblies, lunch, physical education, electives, and with peer tutors who work in the classroom.
