CTAP Technology Certification Levels I, II and IIII

The CTAP Region 8 Technology Certification program is designed to help educators direct their educational technology professional development. The objective of Technology Certification is to ensure that classroom educators have the requisite skills, knowledge and ability to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum.

Technology Certification is organized into 3 Levels of Proficiency:

·       Level I: Technology for Educators Proficiency

·       Level II: Professional Proficiency

·       Level III: Mentor Proficiency

Educators demonstrate mastery at each level through the development of a portfolio organized around proficiency standards. These proficiencies align to ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS Standards).

What is the difference between proficiency levels I, II and III?

·       Level I objective is to ensure educators are able to:

  • Communicate and collaborate electronically.
  • Plan, design and prepare for implementation of learning experiences.
  • Evaluate and assess using technology tools.

·       Level II objective is to ensure educators are able to apply educational technology skills in an educational setting to:

  • Customize curriculum to enhance its relevance and value to a wider range of learning styles and abilities
  • Improve student ability to access relevant technologies
  • Use technology to more effectively meet individual student needs

·       Level III is a mentor proficiency, educators have the authority to certify Level I and Level II portfolios.  As a Level III mentor, you will examine portfolios, explain proficiency requirements, participate in proficiency and assessment discussions, and act as a resource for educators and others interested in meeting the proficiencies. Certification expires after five years.

CTAP Designated Subject Credential (DSC) Levels 1 and 2

Technology is a key component in standards-based education. Teachers are able to design and provide instruction that allows students to engage in learning in ways that may be more suited to their style than lectures, textbooks and other traditional modes of instruction. As teachers look for ways to make classroom activities relevant to the real world for their students, technology is making these possibilities a reality in many classrooms. When used as an educational tool research suggests that technology can inspire projects that increase enthusiasm for learning, as well as teach students teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking.
