The CTAP Region 8 Technology Certification program is designed to help educators direct their educational technology professional development. The objective of Technology Certification is to ensure that classroom educators have the requisite skills, knowledge and ability to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum.
Technology Certification is organized into 3 Levels of Proficiency:
· Level I: Basic Proficiency
· Level II: Professional Proficiency
· Level III: Mentor/Leadership Proficiency
Educators demonstrate mastery at each level through the development of a portfolio organized around proficiency standards. The CTAP Region 8 proficiency standards are aligned to Standards 9 and 16 of the teacher performance standards written by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
What is the difference between proficiency levels I, II and III?
· Level I demonstrates your personal proficiency with a computer. Your portfolio will contain proof that your school can count on you to use basic applications and research tools at a level required for a teacher.
· Level II is a professional proficiency, which means that you are able to teach the same things to students that you demonstrated for yourself in Level I. Level III is for leaders and mentors who want to help other educators become proficient in technology. We often use Level III educators as trainers or presenters.
· Level III educators have the authority to certify Level I and Level II portfolios. As a Level III mentor or leader, you will examine portfolios, explain proficiency requirements, participate in proficiency and assessment discussions, and act as a resource for educators and others interested in meeting the proficiencies. Leaders take on the role of planning and management as described below.
