About CCTC

The Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE), lead agency for the California Center on Teaching Careers, has a long and successful history of collaboration across districts, county offices, community colleges, universities, business and community organizations to develop and implement programs and services that share a vision of high quality recruitment practices throughout the state of California. TCOE's California Teacher Recruitment Program has been highly successful in recruiting teachers who match the needs of schools in the Central Valley and other high needs districts in the state.

Mission & Goals

The mission of the Center is to elevate the teaching profession through attracting new and existing talent to impact teaching and learning in California's 21st Century classrooms.

The overarching goal is to support a continuum of programs and services, integrated into a flexible technology based system designed to recruit, retain, and advance a qualified, effective, diverse teacher candidate pool for the state of California.

Marvin Lopez

Executive Director

<p>Marvin Lopez, MBA/MSM, is the executive director for the California Center on Teaching Careers (The Center), housed within the Tulare County Office of Education. Before ascending to the leadership role, Mr. Lopez had previously served as the assistant executive director of the Center since its inception. During his two decades of experience in education, Marvin has served in numerous roles supporting teacher recruitment and retention, developing grow your own teacher pathways, and acting as an educational liaison at a national level through state and federal projects, Mr. Lopez has a unique, invaluable perspective on what makes teaching enticing, lucrative and fulfilling.</p> <p>A natural leader and collaborator, Mr. Lopez excels at bringing stakeholders, elected officials, both state and federal departments of education, teacher candidates and institutions of higher learning together to foster innovative, long-lasting, impactful changes on how teachers are trained, recruited and retained. Experienced in effective grant-writing, Lopez’s forward-thinking approach has helped to secure $67 million in federal and state grants over the last 20 years. The Center’s work is truly moving the needle as it has connected over 30,000 teacher candidates with 575 school districts and universities across California. Always focused on students and teacher candidates’ needs, Mr. Lopez has worked to centralize recruitment efforts across the state to ensure the process is efficient, results-driven, and always inclusive and equity-focused to diversify and strengthen the teacher candidate pool.</p> <p>Mr. Lopez received his Master of Science in Business Administration and Master of Science in Management from the University of Maryland and earned his Bachelor of Arts from Drew University. He lives in Visalia, California and enjoys running, hiking, cycling, outdoor adventures, and traveling around the world.</p>

Adriana Cervantes-González

Program Manager I - Residency Programs

<p>Dr. Adriana Cervantes-González serves as Program Manager I - Residency Programs for the California Center on Teaching Careers, which is housed within Tulare County Office of Education. She brings more than 23 years of experience in both K-12 and higher education settings and has also served at the state level on the workgroup for the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs). Her expertise comes from having served in various roles in her career as an educator, including as a high school counselor and school site administrator in a large urban district. At that district, she led the development of schoolwide needs assessments and training of the English Learner Advisory Council and was the faculty lead for several university partnership initiatives.</p> <p> </p> <p>Furthermore, as a community member, she serves on the board of directors of the Central California Food Bank, a non-profit organization that fights hunger by gathering and distributing food, engaging in partnerships that advance self-sufficiency, and by providing community leadership on issues related to hunger.</p>

Brooke Berrios

Program Coordinator

<p>Brooke Berrios brings over 20 years of experience and expertise to her new role at Tulare County Office of Education. Formerly the Program Coordinator for the K-16 Collaborative and Rural Teacher Residency Partnerships at the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, Brooke has a knack in bridging diverse educational sectors, forging positive relationships, and leveraging her comprehensive institutional knowledge to align university outreach with the evolving trends in K-12 system-level infrastructure to enhance equitable educational pathways.</p> <p>Her diverse professional journey has culminated in her current mission: developing and executing inclusive programs that enhance the diversification of California's teaching pipeline. Driven by a deep passion for the transformative power of education, she is dedicated to reshaping systems and ensuring equitable access for all students in California.</p>

Ashley Eastman

Program Recruitment Lead

Ashley Eastman, serves as the program recruitment lead for the California Center on Teaching Careers, housed within Tulare County Office of Education. Ms. Eastman is completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from University of Maryland, Global Campus. She possesses organizational skills to maintain the program within the state guidelines, knowledge for communicating with various stakeholders, and experience in maintaining clear communication with teacher candidates and school districts. Jonathan Mendoza

Senior Recruitment Specialist

Mr. Mendoza graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration & Estudios Hispanicos.
