The Ventura County Induction Consortium is a Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved induction program to recommend holders of Preliminary Multiple Subjects, Single Subjects and Education Specialist (special education) credentials for the clear credential. The program is a blend of professional development activities, classroom experiences, and online courses. The program assists K-12 beginning education specialists, experienced teachers, and school site administrators to ensure beginning teacher success and retention. It provides the essential support, resources and collegial planning required for new teacher classroom effectiveness, enhanced teaching strategies for students from diverse backgrounds, focused professional growth, and increased awareness of teaching as a profession.
The Administrator Induction Program is offered by VCOE for novice administrators who possess a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. In consultation with the employer and a qualified mentor, candidates develop a Leadership Action Plan that builds on prior knowledge and experiences. Over the two year program, candidates are assessed on their growth toward becoming proficient in the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (CPSELs) and to earn a Clear Administrative Credential.
The Ventura County Designated Subjects (DSC) Credential Program is approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) to recommend Preliminary and Clear Credentials for teachers assigned to Career Technical Education and Adult Education classes a for the DSC Clear Credential. The program is a blend of direct instruction, self-paced, and online coursework. Although a fee-based program, some DSC candidates may qualify for tuition support through a grant from the CTC.
The Ventura County Orthopedic Impairment Added Authorization Program is a CTC-Approved program that provides a special education teacher with an additional credential authorization to teach children with disabilities in which the primary disability is "orthopedic impairment"(a severe orthopedic impairment that adversely affects a child's educational performance).
The Ventura County LAD program is a CTC-approved program that provides a special education teacher the authorization to provide instructional services to students with academic communication and
language needs to children in preschool, kindergarten, in grades 1 - 12 through age 22, and classes
organized primarily for adults, but does not take the place of speech and language services as defined in
Education Code section 56333.
The Ventura County Office of Education is applying for the California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program (CSEP) grant. CSEP is a state-funded career pathway program for classified employees, leading to a teacher preparation program and teaching credential. Eligible program participants may receive stipends for up to $3,000 to cover tuition, fees, and books.
Enrolled participants who meet all the requirements must complete one school year of classroom instruction in the school district, charter school, or county office of education for each year that financial assistance was received.
The Ventura County Office of Education is offering online modules that meet the 45 hours of preparation required for a current or prospective substitute teacher to obtain an initial Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave (TPSL). The modules are ongoing and may be taken at any time.
The TPSL allows an employing agency to fill a position where the teacher of record is unable to teach due to a statutory leave with a temporary teacher of record for the duration of the leave. The TPSL requires 45 hours of preparation for each of the first three issuances of the permit. Each issuance is valid for one year, and permits a TPSL holder to remain in a classroom for one calendar year.
