Access to Books: Game Changer for Kids

Children with meaningful access to books achieve success at higher levels and experience greater engagement with reading. In this session, you will examine the current research on book access in schools, libraries, and homes; discuss intellectual and cultural access concerns, such as diversity and leveling; and explore resources and strategies for developing and sustaining high-quality classroom library collections that support students' reading lives.

Author Matt Boardman gives us a peek into the life of the early Chumash Indians through the coming of age of his main character, Badger Claws. This fictional story provides students in grades 3-5 with information about early Ventura County history. Paperback copies can be purchased through our library in both English and Spanish for $10.00 each (plus tax).
