School Calendar

Instruction is based upon seven curricular domains:
  • domestic
  • vocational
  • recreation / leisure
  • community access / motor skills
  • communication,
  • social-emotional and
  • functional academics

Academics, which are Standards based, are addressed within these domains so that students learn functional skills that will maximize future independence. Services may include Speech and language support, occupational therapy, intensive behavioral intervention, technology support, and access to non-disabled peers in natural environments.  Students use pictorial, photographic, written or object schedules depending on their capabilities.

A functional mobility component of the curriculum is available for students with physical disabilities to develop the skills of sitting, standing, and walking while participating in their school activities.  A strong emphasis is placed on teaching the student appropriate behaviors and on improving communications skills.  Instruction is designed to meet the individual needs of each student throughout the school day, including recess and lunch periods.

All students have opportunities for interaction  with their typically developing peers during assemblies, lunch, physical education and with peer tutors who work in the classrooms. Aditionally, students may be integrated into regular education classrooms for academic and social education opportunities.
