Battle of the Books: Grades 3-5 & 6-8

Ventura County Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a fun, trivia-style reading event that brings together Ventura County students to celebrate reading and literacy. Students form teams of 3–7 participants from their school or school district and answer questions based on books from the Ventura County Office of Education Battle of the Books reading list.

The event is organized into two grade-level divisions: Elementary (Grades 3–5) and Middle School (Grades 6–8). To provide greater scheduling flexibility for participating schools, each division is offered on two separate event dates, and teams are assigned to one of those dates.

Throughout the school year, students read a diverse selection of books representing a variety of genres, authors, and reading styles. Battle of the Books encourages students to discover new books, strengthen reading comprehension, build teamwork skills, and share their love of reading in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment.
