Event Day Details

This event is an overnight event. Upon registration, students will receive required forms via the email address they enter in their registration that must be returned in order to participate. Since this is an overnight event, once students check-in on Friday, they will not be able to leave the event without a parent picking them up in person as well as a release form submitted at the beginning of the event. Students who are driving themselves will be required to follow the same policy.

Students will be supervised by certificated school administrators for the entire event, as well as credentialed teachers and adult volunteers. If you have any questions, please reach out to DMThompson@vcoe.org, the event coordinator.

2022 Hackathon Winners:

Carpooler - Best Overall (Max L. - Westlake High School): Carpooler is an innovative iOS and Android app that solves the problem of finding people to carpool with amidst flexible work schedules. Carpools can be scheduled and updated on the fly to keep up with the unpredictability of the new type of hybrid in-office/at-home work created by COVID-19 which makes it difficult to coordinate ride-sharing.

Suizlyt - Best Implementation (Darmal T.- Newbury Park High School, Sahan W.- Newbury Park High School, Michael L.- Newbury Park High School, Alvin L.- Rancho Campana High School):  Suizlyt is an engaging study tool that combines elements of traditional study tools and bullet-hell games. Studying just got a whole lot more fun! (and enraging.)

Team Knohow - Best Concept (Hershraj N.-The High School at Moorpark College, Alexander S.- The High School at Moorpark College, Luz T.- Rio Mesa High School, Sahil S.- Moorpark High School): PostIt is a web app that lets anyone write, share, and remix journals with others. It's a collective space to create, whether for taking notes, drawing art, or creating challenges for others to partake in. Users can remix other journals to add onto them, offering a new perspective on previous work. Discuss class notes with your study group, add a caption to a funny drawing, share a new solution to a difficult math problem— the creative possibilities are endless!

Hackathon By The Sea

OUR STORY

In the spring of 2016, the Career Education Center, along with a team of volunteers from Procore Technologies and the US Navy, set out on an ambitious plan to create a STEM event never before experienced in Ventura County. After several months of planning, Hackathon by the Sea was born.

Traditionally seen as collegiate events, hackathons unleash the power of pure possibility and are at the nexus of mechanical, electrical, and computerized technologies. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of technologists.
