The Ventura County Office of Education operates three special education classrooms at Ventura High School. The site serves students in grades 9-12 with moderate to severe disabilities. Our site uses research-based instructional practices to address the needs of each student. As a learning community, we believe that professional expertise supported by collaboration between teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, administration, families, and students leads to positive student outcomes.
Instruction is based upon the following curricular domains: functional academics, communication, social-emotional/behavioral functioning, recreation/leisure, community access, pre-vocational, and fine/gross motor. The functional skills curriculum domains are directly linked to the California State Standards and instruction is individualized to meet each student's IEP goals and objectives. Students have the opportunity to participate in integrated activities with students from the general education campus throughout the school year. Learning takes place within the classroom, on the school campus, and in the community.
