Hearing Screening and Audiology Services

The goal of the Hearing Conservation Program is to provide comprehensive screening, assessment, referral and intervention services to minimize the impact of educationally significant hearing loss.

School Hearing Screening Services

Hearing screening is conducted at Ventura County school sites by certified school audiometrists in accordance with the California Education Code and California Code of Regulations, Title 17.

Pupils are screened in kindergarten, second, fifth and eighth grades.  Pupils that are new to the state, as well as those referred from school staff and parents are also tested.

Individual puretone screening tests are conducted at 25 decibels and include frequencies in the speech range.  Puretone threshold screening tests are administered to pupils who are to be considered for further medical or audiological evaluation.

School health personnel can arrange school hearing screening services by phoning the program coordinator at (805) 437-1380.

Audiology Services

The Ventura County Office of Education employs licensed audiologists who perform educational and clinical duties.

Children can be referred for hearing evaluations from birth through their school years.

Hearing evaluations may include behavioral audiometry, air and bone conduction testing, speech audiometry, otoacoustic emissions, impedance and hearing aid analysis.

Consultative services to pupils with hearing impairment may include auditory skills development, electroacoustical analysis of amplification, audiological monitoring and in-service training.

Testing is by appointment only and conducted at the Hearing Conservation Facility, 5100 Adolfo Road, Camarillo, CA  93012.
