Mr. Urias joined the VCOE team in 2014. As the Director of Charter School Support and Oversight, he directly oversees the five VCOE sponsored charter schools and provides support to the other Ventura County charter schools and their sponsoring districts. In addition, Mr Urias is responsible for all statewide testing for VCOE schools, and oversees HS Equivalency testing and student competitions. He is also a resource for Ventura County families with questions about their educational options.
Before coming to VCOE, Mr Urias was an Associate Principal at Oxnard HS in the Oxnard Union High School District. Mr. Urias also served as an Assistant Principal in the Conejo Valley Unified School District for nine years and taught English at El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills for six years. He was an involved faculty member at El Camino Real High School serving as head frosh-soph football coach, speech & debate coach, athletic director, and the assessment coordinator for the Annenberg Challenge grant the school received. He has also received the Honorary Service Award from the Westlake High School PTSA, Service Award from the Marmonte League, and was the Association of California School Administrators Region XIII Assistant Principal of the Year for 2013-2014.
Mr. Urias has experience in all aspects of school leadership and has completed the Charter Schools Development Center yearlong Chief Business Officers training.
