Principal's Message

Amy StenclerGreetings,

On behalf of the Ventura County Office of Education and the dedicated faculty and staff of the Dorothy Boswell Program, I am delighted to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year. We’re so glad you’ve taken the time to visit our website.

My name is Dr. Amy Stencler, and I serve as the Principal for VCOE’s Post-Secondary Programs at Dorothy Boswell and ACCESS. It is an honor to work alongside such an exceptional group of students, families, and staff members. I am deeply proud and grateful to be part of this vibrant and joyful learning community.

The Ventura County Office of Education currently operates five post-secondary classrooms at Dorothy Boswell in Ventura. This site serves students ages 18–22 with extensive support needs referred from surrounding school districts. Our program offers specialized academic instruction and support services in the areas of:

  • Career and vocational training

  • Independent living skills

  • Community access

  • Recreation and leisure

  • Mobility training

  • Social-emotional development

  • Functional academics

Students benefit from a standards-based curriculum, access to Ventura College EAC courses (as appropriate), and ongoing travel training through Gold Coast Transit.

We are proud to partner with a variety of community job training sites, including Alejandro’s Salon, Dargan’s, O’Leary’s, Pizza Man Dan’s, Cure Community Garden, Eddie’s Grill, Buena Library, and Elemental Hardware.

As an adult learning community, we believe that collaboration among students, families, schools, and community stakeholders leads to meaningful outcomes. Our goal is to equip students with practical, real-world skills that foster independence.

Students regularly participate in mobility and bus training, shopping and money management practice, community job site work, social and recreational activities, and communication skill development. To enrich their post-secondary experience, we also offer on-site clubs such as P.E., Game Day, Student Store, Art, Gaming Club, and Culinary Navigators.

Thank you for visiting our website. We hope it has provided valuable insight into our amazing school. My door is always open, and I welcome your comments, suggestions, and ideas. School visits are available by appointment only. Please contact the Boswell office at (805) 289-3388 for more information.

Warm regards,

Dr. Amy Stencler
