Ventura County School Closures for Monday, November 4, 2019
The Ventura Unified School District has announced the following school closures for Monday, November 4, 2019. These are the only Ventura County K-12 public school closures that have been announced for this date.
VENTURA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CLOSE EIGHT SCHOOLS ON MON. NOV. 4, 2019
Campuses will be closed due to significant levels of ash and debris
VENTURA ,CA November 3, 2019- Dr. Roger Rice, Superintendent of the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD) sent home an email and call this evening announcing that eight of its schools will be closed on Monday, November 4, 2019 due to significant levels of ash and debris from the recent Maria Fire. Those schools are Juanamaria Elementary, Portola Elementary, Citrus Glenn Elementary, Montalvo Arts Academy, ATLAS Academy of Technology and Leadership at Saticoy, Junipero Serra Elementary, Balboa Middle School, and Mound Magnet for Science and Global Citizenship. All other VUSD schools will be open on Monday. It is expected that the eight schools will reopen on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
“Our teams inspected school sites this weekend. It was determined that eight of our schools had a significant amount of ash that needed to be cleaned up prior to students and staff returning.” stated Dr. Rice, VUSD Superintendent. “We realize closing schools impacts our families greatly and appreciate their patience during this time.”
VUSD facilities teams will be working on school clean ups all day Monday. If additional time to clean is needed, the school district will notify families by email and call on Monday night. This closure comes on the heels of all schools being closed for a planned Fall Break this past week. “It is not an ideal situation but our teams will be working hard to get these schools cleaned up and ready for our students and staff,” stated Betsy George, Assistant Superintendent.
