Dr. Roger Rice, VCOE's Deputy Superintendent of Student Services, has been named the new Superintendent of the Ventura Unified School District. Below is an email that Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Stan Mantooth sent to the VCOE staff about Dr. Rice's appointment.
Dear VCOE Family-
It is with great pleasure that I inform you of our own Deputy Superintendent Dr. Roger Rice’s selection by the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD) as their next permanent Superintendent. This announcement was made by the VUSD Board at yesterday evening’s meeting – January 8, 2019.
At the same time, I’m sure you appreciate how bittersweet this news is to me personally; and I suspect for many of you as well. To say that he will be sorely missed is a tremendous understatement. Nonetheless, I am convinced that the VUSD has made a most intelligent and pragmatic decision, and that Dr. Rice has in turn made what will be an appropriate and career fulfilling choice of his own.
As they say, the days are long and the years are short; which is why it’s hard to grasp the fact that Roger’s tenure with VCOE has spanned a decade. During his time here at VCOE – by virtue of his personality and passion more than his position – Dr. Rice has either directly or indirectly touched the lives of each and every student and staff member, and has been unwavering in placing children FIRST on an exhaustive list of accomplishments over the past 10 years. He has been a key participant in building and maintaining our culture here, across Ventura County and throughout the state of California, and will always be embedded in the fabric of VCOE.
One of the many silver linings connected with this change is that Roger will be with us through the end of February; no doubt tying up the very few loose ends that may require his attention. I would urge you to offer your own congratulations to Dr. Rice on this well-deserved promotion.
As always, if you have any questions or need additional information please feel free to give me a call.
