After an extensive search, Dr. César Morales, Ventura County Superintendent of Schools, has named Lisa Salas Brown as the new Associate Superintendent of Educational Services for the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE).

Ms. Salas Brown is currently VCOE’s Executive Director of State and Federal System of Support. In her new role, she will lead VCOE’s Educational Services Branch, which helps school districts maintain compliance with government regulations, provides training for teachers and school administrators, and works to increase student achievement through curriculum development.

“Ms. Salas Brown has 30 years of experience working in public education in Ventura County and strong family ties to our region,” said Dr. Morales. “She has been a critical resource for local school districts both before and during the pandemic, and she consistently puts students first in all of the work she does.”

“I’ve been extremely fortunate to spend my career working on behalf of the students of Ventura County,” Ms. Salas Brown said. “There are amazing people working in our schools who care deeply about the success and wellbeing of our students. I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with them in this new role to make a real difference in students’ lives.”

Ms. Salas Brown began her career as a teacher at VCOE’s Gateway Community School in Camarillo in 1991 before going to Santa Paula High School to be a teacher in her home town. Her administrative career started at Fillmore Middle School in the Fillmore Unified School District.  She also served as Director of Accountability and Assessment and as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Oxnard Union High School District before returning to VCOE in 2015 as Director of Local District Support. She recently received the “Leadership Matters Award” after being nominated by her peers in Region 13 of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA).

Ms. Salas Brown will start her new position on June 1.
