Teach Special Ed CA- (Grant has concluded for new applicants)

The Ventura County Office of Education offers Teach Special Education CA grant funding. TEACH SPED CA is a program is tailored to recruit and authorize future teachers of Special Education. The Consortium (Kern, San Luis Obispo,and Ventura counties) will pursue a “Build Your Own” model by focusing recruitment efforts on local residents with roots in the community, thereby better-ensuring retention as the Consortium builds a sustainable pipeline of special education teachers. Tuition assistance is available to obtain or clear an Education Specialist Credential, intern in a special education classroom, or adding an Orthopedic Impairment (OI) Added Authorization to an existing Education Specialist Credential.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE AND WHAT DOES IT COVER?

  • Clear Credential Special Ed. Teachers
    • Adding Special Ed. authorization
    • Orthopedic Impairment added authorization (OI)
    • Support for 4 years

    • 2 years of Induction including mentor fees
    • Credential Analyst time (advisement)
    • Additional 2 years of support

  • Clear Credential Gen. Ed. Teachers interested in obtaining a Special Ed. Credential
    • Adding any Special Ed. authorization 
    • RICA test preparation and test fees
    • Support for 4 years
    • Additional expenses
  • Existing Special Ed. Interns
    • Program tuition
    • RICA test preparation and test fees
    • Intern Support including English Learner support
    • Additional 3 years of support including induction 
    • Additional expenses
  • Special Education Short Term Staff Permits (STSPs), Provisional INtern Permits (PIPs), and Limited Assignment Permits (SELAPs)
    • Program tuition
    • All test preparation and test fees
    • Supporting including English Learner support
    • Additional 3 years of support including induction
    • Additional expenses
  • Also will consider Candidates Enrolled in a Teacher Preparation Program.

Participant Commitment:

  • Participants who meet all the requirements and receive funding are required to work for four (4) years as an education specialist, serving a caseload of pupils who receive special education services in a special education setting.  
  • The participant has five years to meet the four-year obligation.
