CTE Credential

The Career Technical Education Credential (DSC CTE) allows candidates to teach in grades 12 and below and in classes organized primarily for adults, in career technical, trade or vocational courses.

Preliminary Credential

Individuals first apply for a “preliminary” credential based mainly on their work experience aligned to an industry sector. The preliminary credential is valid for 3 yearsThe preliminary credential is valid for 3 years. CLICK HERE to begin the preliminary credential application process. 

OBTAIN YOUR CLEAR CREDENTIAL

Clear Credential

During the 3 years of the preliminary credential, additional requirements must be completed to earn the final credential called a "clear". To satisfy the credential requirement, you must be employed in a CTE teaching position and complete a CTE program. This is an online program consisting of three courses, Fall, Spring, and Summer. Program costs are currently $2,750. There is a $150 non-refundable program registration fee due at the time of registering. Once a clear credential is earned, it includes an authorization to teach to English Learners, is valid for five years, and is renewable online through the CTC's website.

CTE Equivalency Program Registration

This is a special program option at a reduced rate for individuals that hold BOTH a California Preliminary CTE credential AND a California Single Subject or Multiple Subject teaching credential. The program opens each Fall and Spring semester.
